Community in Shagari Quarters Calls for Immediate Government Action
Residents of Shagari Quarters in the Dei-Dei Area of Abuja have raised urgent concerns about the deteriorating state of basic amenities in their community. They have called on the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to take immediate steps to address these challenges and improve living conditions.
The community has specifically urged all levels of government to complete several abandoned projects and provide essential social amenities. This call for action was made during the maiden Shagari Quarters Day Celebration and Turbaning Ceremony, where the traditional ruler of the area, Sarki Usman Dalhatu, voiced his concerns.
A Plea for Support and Development
During the event, which was themed “The Role of Political and Traditional Leaders in Community Growth and Sustainable Development,” Dalhatu expressed deep frustration over the years of neglect the community has faced. He pointed out that despite repeated promises from public officials, including Senators and members of the House of Representatives, little has been done to improve the situation.
He highlighted the lack of good roads, potable water, functional healthcare facilities, standard schools, and stable electricity as major issues facing the area. “Our people struggle daily because of bad roads and lack of clean water. We have no well-equipped hospital, our schools are in poor condition, and electricity supply is erratic. These are not luxuries but basic necessities,” he stated.
Dalhatu emphasized the need for collaboration between the FCTA and other relevant agencies to ensure that long-abandoned infrastructure projects are completed. He also encouraged the provision of support through various projects or empowerment programs, stating that such efforts would significantly uplift the community and foster a sense of belonging among its residents.
Call for Accountability and Righteous Leadership
In addition to the traditional ruler’s speech, Professor Shuaibu Danfulani, the guest lecturer at the event, addressed the importance of accountability and righteousness in governance. His message was delivered by Ustadhz Abdulrasheed Zakariya, who represented him at the ceremony.
Zakariya reminded the leaders that leadership is a sacred trust and that those in power would be held responsible by God for their actions. “Leadership is not for self-gratification but service. Anyone placed in a position of authority will answer before Allah for how they treat their people,” he cautioned.
Danfulani further urged government representatives to prioritize the completion of essential infrastructure in Shagari Quarters. He stressed that such development would contribute to peace, unity, and progress in the area.
The Path Forward
The community’s plea highlights the urgent need for government intervention and collaboration with local leaders to address the pressing issues facing Shagari Quarters. With the right support and commitment, the area can see significant improvements in infrastructure and overall quality of life.
As the residents continue to advocate for their rights, it is crucial for all stakeholders to come together and work towards a sustainable future for the community. The involvement of both political and traditional leaders is essential in ensuring that the promises made are fulfilled and that the people of Shagari Quarters receive the support they so desperately need.
