A New Chapter in the “Taxi Driver” Saga
Writer Oh Sang-ho, known for his work on SBS’s new weekend drama “Taxi Driver 3,” has expressed immense confidence in the lead actor Lee Je-hoon. He believes that the success of the show is a result of the support from its audience. Oh shared, “I feel deeply honored and grateful for the viewers’ support. It is meaningful to welcome Season 3 with the ‘Rainbow Transportation’ family as ever.”
He also mentioned the pride and responsibility that come with reaching a third season in the ever-evolving Korean drama market. “I am nervous about how this season will be received,” he said. “I sincerely hope viewers enjoy it.”
The Vision Behind Season 3
Oh elaborated on the direction of Season 3, stating, “We strived to show new changes even within familiarity.” He emphasized that the theme of “private revenge” remains relevant in society because people long for fairness. “As real-life justice moves slowly, people seem to cheer for clear endings in dramas. So, I put a lot of thought into how to reduce their frustration.”
The Rainbow Quintet
Oh praised the “Rainbow quintet”—Lee Je-hoon (Kim Do-gi), Kim Eui-sung (CEO Jang), Pyo Ye-jin (Go Eun), Jang Hyuk-jin (Choi, the section chief), and Bae Yu-ram (Park, the section chief)—who have been part of all series.
He said, “Though it’s a one-man show starring Kim Do-gi, after multiple seasons, all five have become protagonists. Each has a unique color, strength, and unmatched acting power.”
Lee Je-hoon: A Pillar of Strength
The biggest reason for the success of the series, according to Oh, is Lee Je-hoon. “He has quietly stayed in his role as Kim Do-gi, still wearing the same worn-out jacket since Season 1. His acting made anything possible. He was a great source of strength while working on Season 3. Personally, I’m deeply grateful to him and hope he stays healthy,” revealing his deep affection for Lee.
What to Expect in Season 3
Regarding the highlights of Season 3, Oh said, “You can look forward to the character-driven performances of the five Rainbow Transportation members. The upgraded scale and boldly attempted diverse action scenes will satisfy viewers’ eyes and ears. The lineup of terrifying and powerful villains is also a highlight. We’ve prepared thoroughly for a long time, so we ask for much anticipation and viewing.”
The Legacy of “Taxi Driver”
The “Taxi Driver” series is based on the webtoon of the same name, depicting a taxi company called Rainbow Transportation and its driver Kim Do-gi, who carries out revenge on behalf of wronged victims. The previous seasons ranked 5th in viewership (21%) among domestic terrestrial and cable dramas aired since 2023. Last year, it won the Best Drama Series award at the 28th Asian Television Awards (ATA), one of Asia’s most prestigious media award ceremonies.
Upcoming Premiere
The new season, “Taxi Driver 3,” will premiere on the 21st at 9:50 p.m. This latest installment promises to deliver an engaging and thrilling experience for fans of the series. With its compelling storyline and strong cast, it is expected to continue the legacy of the previous seasons and captivate a new audience.
