Two Killed in Imo by Speeding ENTRACO Vehicle

Tragic Incident Involves Two Motorcyclists Killed by Environmental Transformation Commission Operatives

A devastating incident occurred in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, where two men on a motorbike were reportedly killed after being struck by speeding operatives of the Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO). The tragedy took place along Akachi Road, near Wethedral Road, on Monday afternoon and has sparked widespread outrage over the alleged misconduct of ENTRACO personnel.

According to eyewitnesses, the two individuals were traveling to Alaba Spare Parts Market when they were hit by ENTRACO agents who were driving at high speed. The collision resulted in immediate fatalities. One of the victims was found with both legs crushed, one foot dangling near the wheels of the motorbike, while the other had sustained severe head injuries. Both men lay in pools of their own blood, a grim sight that left many in shock.

A local source, Chidiebube Okeoma, shared details of the incident, stating, “They were on a bike heading to Alaba market when the government officials working as taskforce agents rammed into them and they died on the spot. The state government must stop these guys from committing further mayhem in this state. They have done enough.”

The incident has been widely discussed on social media, with many expressing their anger and sorrow. A former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Dr. Walter Duru, called for an immediate halt to all ENTRACO activities, warning that the organization has become a threat to the people. He wrote on his Facebook page, “ENTRACO leadership in Imo State should be prosecuted for murder. Enough of the killing of innocent citizens.” In another post, he added, “Time to disband ENTRACO in Imo State. It’s now a rogue organisation.”

Another concerned citizen, Godslight Nwaorgu, shared his emotional reaction to the incident, saying, “ENTRACO just killed two vibrant guys there this afternoon. Their legs and brains were torn into pieces. I didn’t know when tears fell from my eyes. ENTRACO has to end in Imo State; if not, we will come for them this time. One of the guys is even someone I know.”

Despite the growing public outcry, efforts to obtain a statement from the police spokesperson for Imo State Command, DSP Henry Okoye, were unsuccessful. His phone remained disconnected, leaving many without official information about the incident.

Similarly, attempts to reach out to ENTRACO for a response also failed. The spokesperson for the General Manager, Darlington Ibekwe, did not respond to calls or messages, raising questions about the transparency of the organization.

This tragic event has reignited discussions about the conduct of ENTRACO and its role in the community. Many are calling for accountability, investigations, and reforms to prevent further incidents. As the situation unfolds, the voices of the affected families and the public continue to demand justice and safety for all residents.
