New Beginnings for Nec Under Badru Kaddu
When Badru Kaddu stepped into the dressing room of Nec on Saturday as their new head coach, he was not just taking over a team but also a club in search of direction. The transition was more than just about football; it was about building an identity that matched the club’s growing ambitions.
Kaddu’s first match ended in a 1-1 draw with Bul at Lugogo. This result extended the visitors’ unbeaten run to 25 games, but it also gave Kaddu a clear view of the challenges ahead. Despite the draw, there were signs of promise during the game. Nec started strongly, pressing high and moving the ball quickly. They deservedly took the lead in the 27th minute when Joseph Dhata capitalized on a rebound after Marvin Kavuma’s header hit the post from a Mustafa Kizza free-kick.
However, a moment of poor judgment by goalkeeper Samson Kirya just before halftime allowed Bul to equalize. The goal came from a tame header by Jerome Kirya, which Kirya misjudged completely. This lapse in concentration cost Nec the lead and shifted the momentum of the game.
In the second half, Nec struggled to maintain the same level of intensity. They created few clear chances, which was a concern for a coach like Kaddu, who is known for his attention to detail. Yet, despite the setbacks, the match provided a platform for Kaddu to build upon.
A Vision for the Future
Speaking after the match, Kaddu expressed his commitment to the club. “Like any coach, I wanted to work with a big club with big ambitions,” he said. “Nec wants to win trophies, and I share that purpose. The idea is to lift the standards and play the beautiful football style that the club desires.”
Kaddu, who replaced Hussein Mbalangu, has a clear mandate: to transform Nec from a pragmatic, results-driven side into one that plays with tactical fluidity and creative intent. The club currently sits 12th on six points, and the hierarchy hopes that the former Express coach will bring a fresh philosophy after a slow start to the season.
Kaddu’s own career adds an interesting dimension to his appointment. Once a respected assistant at KCCA, he now has the opportunity to establish himself as a head coach. For him, Nec represents both an opportunity and a challenge.
The Road Ahead
Kaddu’s immediate challenge is another tough test. After the international break, Nec will face SC Villa at Kadiba, a team in excellent form under the tactically astute Zeljko Kovacevic. Kaddu, however, is unfazed by the challenge. “Nec are supposed to be up there, not below,” he asserted. “We shall work on the winning mentality and show that we can compete with the best.”
For now, Kaddu’s first point in charge may not have thrilled his ambitious employers, but it has laid the foundation for a potential transformation. From a physical and reactive style of play, the club could evolve into a more purposeful and expressive team.
Upcoming Fixtures
The next match for Nec is against SC Villa, scheduled for 8pm on November 20. This game will be a crucial test for Kaddu and his team as they aim to build on the lessons learned from their opening match.
