The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions in preparation for the 10th edition of the Lagos Women’s Run, scheduled to take place on Saturday, 8 November 2025, starting at 6:00 a.m. This annual event, which promotes health and fitness, is set to attract thousands of participants from across the state and beyond.

Organized by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) in collaboration with event organizers, the 10-kilometre race will begin at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) and conclude at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan. The route spans several key locations within Lagos, making it essential for authorities to implement traffic management strategies to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and the safety of all road users.

Affected Routes and Road Closures

In a recent statement, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, outlined the specific routes that will be impacted by the event. These include:

The affected areas will experience partial road closures during the event, with traffic management teams working to guide vehicles through alternate routes. These measures are aimed at minimizing disruptions while ensuring the safety of runners and other road users.

Multi-Agency Coordination for Traffic Management

To manage the increased traffic flow and maintain order, multiple agencies have been deployed to oversee the event. These include:

  • Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)
  • Lagos State Police Command
  • Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)
  • Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps (LSNC)

These teams will be stationed along the race route to monitor traffic conditions, assist drivers, and provide guidance to participants. Their presence is crucial in preventing congestion and ensuring that the event proceeds without major incidents.

Community Engagement and Public Awareness

In addition to traffic management, the government has emphasized the importance of public awareness campaigns to inform residents about the changes. Local communities, businesses, and commuters are encouraged to plan ahead and avoid the affected areas during the event. Information about alternative routes and parking options will be shared through official channels to minimize inconvenience.
