Shohei Ohtani Earns 2025 National League Silver Slugger Award
LOS ANGELES – Shohei Ohtani has been honored with the 2025 National League Silver Slugger Award for designated hitter, marking another impressive season at the plate for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ two-way star. The award celebrates the top offensive performers in each position across both the American League and the National League, as determined by Major League Baseball managers and coaches.
Ohtani, who recently secured back-to-back World Series titles with the Dodgers, has now claimed his third consecutive Silver Slugger Award and fourth overall. This achievement includes his time with the American League’s Los Angeles Angels, making him the most decorated Japanese player in the history of the award, surpassing the three-time winner Ichiro Suzuki.
The 31-year-old athlete is anticipated to win his third straight MVP Award in the coming week. Although he did not replicate last year’s historic 50-50 performance, Ohtani continued to set new benchmarks this season.
Record-Breaking Season
Ohtani achieved a career-high and franchise-record 55 home runs during the season, finishing as the second-highest home run hitter in the National League. His batting average stood at .282, with 102 RBIs to his name.
He led the league in several key offensive categories, including slugging percentage (.622), on-base plus slugging (OPS) (1.014), OPS+ (179), and total bases (380). Additionally, Ohtani scored an MLB-high 146 runs, the most by any Dodger since the start of baseball’s modern era in 1900, according to MLB.com.
Recognition for Other Players
Other notable recipients of the Silver Slugger Award include New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto, who secured his sixth award. The Dodgers also received recognition for their outstanding offensive performance, earning back-to-back honors as the NL Offensive Team of the Year.
The winners for the American League will be announced on Friday, completing the annual celebration of excellence in baseball.
